Getting Organized For Writing February 25, 2010

     I think the key concept of writing from a public relations perspective is that it is a part of the overall public relations process. Writing takes place in the communication step, which should remind practitioners that planning and research is required first. Afterall, how effective would a carelessly put-together message be to a demanding and critical public?

     The authors of the book, Public Relations Writing and Media Techniques, stress how important it is to have reliable equipment. This, in my opinion, should be one of the first issues any aspiring PR professional thinks about. It helps a lot to have a computer or laptop with plenty of storage capacity and fast processing speeds. And everyone should always back up their files.

     Another step to becoming more acclamated to public relations writing is to start a blog. That’s what I’ve done. It may be challenging at first for those who aren’t used to Web 2.0 applications, but I’ve found the learning curve to be not so bad.
